Karanja: ANSM’s opinion on sunscreen oils
The ANSM (Agence Nationale de Sécurité du Médicament et des Produits de Santé), the French health authorities, has published an opinion on the use of Karanja Oil in sun protection products.
In this opinion, the authorities have reminded the Responsible Persons of the placement of cosmetic products on the market, that sunscreen products may only contain the authorised UV-filters, those listd in the Annex VI of the Regulation on cosmetic products 1223/2009.
In this statement, the ANSM refer to the use of Karanja Oil as a natural UV-filter in some products. The authorities also remind that it´s currently illegal to sell a product claiming sun protection based solely on Karanja Oil, and if combined with other authorised UV-filters, it must be provable that the current SPF value is derived from the presence of the allowed filters.
